Chelford Girl Named As Finalist
A Chelford girl has been named as a finalist in a national competition to design an eye-catching cycle helmet.
Charlotte Cassidy, aged eight, showed off her artistic talents by creating an imaginative helmet.
Fuchs Silkolene, a leading manufacturer of superior motorcycle and cycle oils, teamed up with award winning child's safety charity Cycle-Smart to run the UK-wide contest in the build-up to the Fuchs Silkolene Tour of the Potteries cycle event on June 25.
The design by Charlotte, of Alderley Edge School for Girls, will now go before a public vote to find an overall winner. The winning child will receive their helmet as a real product as well as an exciting bike stunt show at their school.
Sally Travis, marketing manager at Fuchs, said: "We received some fantastic entries to our Design a Helmet competition and it was a really tough task picking out three finalists.
"Charlotte did a great job in making her design stand-out with some very bright colours. Well done Charlotte and good luck in the final!"
Charlotte's design has a weather theme with rainbows, lightning, sun and stars.
Sally added: "This has been a fun competition to encourage children to be creative. But there is an important message too -- it's absolutely crucial that kids wear a helmet when they are out and
about on their bikes. They can be lifesavers."
Angela Lee, chief executive of The Cycle-Smart Foundation, said: "Cycle-Smart Foundation has been delighted to be a part in this fantastic project, especially as it gets children involved in thinking about cycle safety and helmet wearing. Children are very imaginative and this project has allowed them to show us what they see helmet designs should look like."
Registration is now open for the Tour of the Potteries, which is being run by professional cycling event organisers, Wheels in Wheels.
There are two routes, both setting off from Fuchs Silkolene headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent: a 104km (64 miles) challenge, and a shorter 44km (27 miles) ride.
Entrance is £29 for the long ride and £19 for the short ride, or £5 extra for those who register on the day. Advance registration and further information is available at www.wheelsinwheels.com
