Chelford Says Goodbye To Bank Staff

Home » Newsroom » Goodbye To Bank Staff

Chelford Tenants and Residents Association (CTARA) recently hosted a thank you party for some of the Nat West Bank staff that have served the village. Kim and Kathy from Nat West have provided an excellent service to the residents of Chelford for over 30 years and there has been a bank in Chelford in excess of 100 years.

Mike Jehan, Chair of CTARA said; " We wanted to show our appreciation of the wonderful service that Kim and Kathy have given the customers of Nat West in Chelford over the years. Sadly we have lost this local personal service with the bank closing and their personal impact on the community will be missed"

David Kent, Secretary seconded this by commenting:
" It wasn't just about providing a banking service, both Kim & Kathy were part of our community and "signposted" many of our vulnerable and older members of the community to our Association. We have had many people join in our activities in this way and they have both helped in the Associations aim of combating social isolation and loneliness in the elderly. Just like the local pub the bank branch played a great part in the social wellbeing and meeting point in the local community, a fact I believe the bank is not interested in"

Nat West Chelford branch is just one of the latest bank closures in the area. Last year Holmes Chapel and Middlewich were closed and Bollington is also set to be closed. CTARA did try to get Nat West to postpone the closure until Chelford Agricultural Market moves next year but to no avail.

The Association also try to get support from George Osborne but again to no avail. Sadly the alternative suggested at Chelford Post Office is not offering a full banking service as promised.

In the meantime the Association is looking at the possibility of a Credit Union presence in the village to help those with transport, mobility or no internet facilities.
Other communities that are similarly affected are taking action to make their feelings known as more and more "last bank in town" closures hit the country.
