Chelford's War Memorial Appeal

Home » Newsroom » Chelford's War Memorial Appeal

The fine War Memorial Calvary was sculpted by Mr G W Walker, later elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1925, and given by Mr Frank Grant of Chelford in thanks for the safe return of his son from the Great War. He lived at 'Mereleigh', Chelford, an elegant home built around 1862 now demolished to make way for new housing development known as Mere Court.

To commemorate the centenary of the start of World War 1, an appeal is being launched to restore the war memorial, which is in need of some repair. If you click to expand the pictures, you can see some of the damage.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact one of your Parish Councillors or you can donate via the collection box in Boon's butchers.
