Chelford Tenants and Residents Association (CTARA) recently submitted a funding bid of £7868 to Cheshire East Council to deliver health initiatives in Chelford. The CTARA bid is for an ambitious initiative called Happy & Healthy in Chelford. The bid was put together after consultation with local GPs residents and partner agencies to identify specific health needs in our area. The project includes partner working with:
"Living Well Dying Well" to create a compassionate community in Chelford and the surrounding area. This includes some great "Crafting Memories Sessions" for the community and training for volunteers/surgery staff etc.
'Musical Moments' interactive musical and movement sessions fortnightly.
Rolling out the Dementia Friends campaign and creating a Dementia Friendly Organisation and working towards a Dementia Friendly Community
The project will also include holding a monthly Carers Event; starting a Walking Group; installing a Hearing Loop in the community room; enabling exercise classes (Otago) to continue which help balance and reduce falls in older persons
Each activity is aimed at reducing social isolation and loneliness, the "hidden killer" of older people and supports the aims of "The Campaign to End Loneliness"
The CTARA bid was shortlisted with eight other bids and each organisation was invited give a 3 minute presentation at Shaw Heath Social Club in Mobberley last Saturday. Members of the audience attending the presentations were then asked to vote on how best to distribute the £20,000 on offer. David Kent, ably assisted by volunteer Iris Ryder and Becky Morley from Musical Moments, led a well constructed presentation, which impressed the audience so much that the CTARA bid came out top when the votes were counted. A cheque for £7868 was duly presented to CTARA by Cheshire East Cllrs Paul Bates and George Walton.
Congratulations to CTARA and we wish members every success with this very worthy project.
