Fair Trade for Brownies & Guides
Chelford Guides and Brownies held a joint meeting recently to host a visit by Fairtrade representatives to learn more about the work of the global organisation.
The Reverend Robin Mosley, Vicar of St Oswald's Church, Brereton, and his wife Lesley, are local Fairtrade organisers and told the Guides and Brownies about Fairtrade work around the world, using fun games and activities to explain how the organisation helped farmers and growers get a fair price for their work.
The girls learned about the origins of a variety of Fairtrade grocery products, and were able to buy Fairtrade products from a stall put on by Lesley and Robin for the evening.
For the Guides, learning about Fairtrade practices forms part of their work for the 'Chocolate-Go For It' challenge, and for the Brownies, learning about Fairtrade is a key part of their activities for 'World Issues' badge.
Guide Leader Laura Chaffer, who organised the visit, said: "Many thanks to Robin and Lesley for giving up their evening to talk to the girls. Everyone learned about Fairtrade through some great games and quizzes, and we enjoyed Fairtrade refreshments as well."
