Cheshire East Council is putting on buses after the firm which runs buses from Macclesfield shut last night.

Bus company GHA Coaches ceased trading last night leaving widespread disruption this morning for schools pupils and other service users.

The council is bringing in urgent alternative transport on affected routes after the shock news from the firm which employs 400 staff and has bases across the region including in Macclesfield.

It runs buses on routes from Macclesfield to Manchester, Knutsford, Congleton and Crewe.

Local routes effected include the 19, 19x, 200, 130, 87, 27, 27a and 27b.

The council is giving priority to children trying to get to school and older residents this morning.
