PEOVER V CHELFORD PTA cricket match — Friday 19th June

In an historic moment of sporting history, the parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours of children at Peover and Chelford schools came together for a cricket match at Peover Cricket club. Despite the grey skies threatening to disrupt the evening, the rain held off and dozens of children played games on the pitch, before the big event kicked off.

Chelford batted first, and despite losing some early wickets, settled down to score 87 runs off 10 overs. Peover's opening partnership went full throttle with both players having to retire without being bowled out once they reached 25 runs (special mention for the youngest player on the pitch Max Nightingale who confounded Chelford's more mature bowlers).

But a very stingy Chelford bowling attack meant Peover finished on 74 at the end of the 10 overs and the inaugural Chelford/Peover cup went to Chelford Primary.

The whole evening was a great success with fantastic support from both schools, and with true sportsmanship on show. Peover cricket club were excellent hosts and Chelford scouts provided first class catering.

Of course, it's not the winning that counts. But I reckon both sides will be relishing a re-match next year.

Thanks to all involved.
