Station Volunteers Report
We're now into the 'putting to bed' stage for the gardens at the station. It's been a tricky old year with a massive amount of rain which has prevented us from doing as much work as we may have needed to do. It's also extended the grass growing season which will stop us moaning about the weather.
In spite of everything we've had good colourful displays and we've all tried to do our very best to ensure that the station environment is as pleasant as possible. The next job is to plant 25kg of bulbs, so if you would like to help, you can contact us here.
We are all extremely sad about the passing in October of Tony Icke, who together with his wife Barbara and Peter and Heather Hammond, constituted the "Fantastic Four" who did so much over ten years to improve our station and were rewarded with various "Best Kept Station" awards over each of those years. Next time you're at the station, count them and see.
Tony was a railwayman through and through and could always be counted on to work extremely hard, even when he wasn't feeling very well. He and Peter formed a great and funny double act; a shame really that the age of vaudeville had passed. Tony was absolutely dedicated to improving our station for all who use it and we shall miss him very much.
