Two offerings this week from Lower Withington WI
WI — DANE VALLEY GROUP MEETING
On Thursday 26th October at 7.30pm the Dane Valley Autumn Group Meeting was held at Lower Withington Village Hall.
Everyone was welcomed by Group Chairman. Josie Sykes and we started off by singing 'Jerusalem' and then Aaron Dean of Trevanion Dean Auctioneers and Valuers with his talk entitled 'An Auctioneers lot!'
He set up the business with Christina Trevanion in the Joyce Clock Building which was built in 1904, in Shropshire. Aaron told us about the research he does for the TV program 'Flog it'. He told us all about Muncaster Castle built in 1208, which an episode was filmed at and lots of stories about items that have been through the Sales Rooms. He is very passionate about what he does and gets to travel all over the country.
He then judged items brought in by various WI's, the competition was won by Jodrellside WI with a very old and lovely 'sampler'.
We then enjoyed a rather lovely supper and finished off the evening by singing the National Anthem.
October's Meeting was opened by our Vice President, Karen Taylor who thanked everyone for coming and we then sang Jerusalem. She welcomed our three visitors and gave out flowers to two of our members Christine Sullivan for a recent special Birthday and Janet Jones for a very special Wedding Anniversary.
She then gave a warm welcome to Elaine Cuzner whose talk was titled 'Unusual Ways to Wrap Gifts', she said it had started out as a hobby that had 'got out of hand'! Her parcels were really very pretty, neat and tidy. It's all in the folding and having very straight creases and not using too much paper! She also showed us a very ingenious way of gift wrapping a round tin of biscuits. It really was a very informative and useful evening.
We then, as usual, enjoyed a very generous supper. Our next Meeting is on Wednesday 22nd November when our Speaker will be Ann Russell with 'Christmas Flowers', at 7.30pm, at Lower Withington Village Hall, why not come along and join us! firstname.lastname@example.org
