The Royal British Legion, as you know, usually have the Poppy trays and collecting boxes out during the lead up to Remembrance Day. Last year we had 18 boxes out in the Chelford area, but with CoVid restrictions we are not allowed any this year. In response, Sue Roycroft and her daughter Helen have been working tirelessly to install large street poppies around the area on lamp posts and other strategic places. Sue and Helen have been working hard to get organisations and residents to sponsor these poppies in order to raise funds for the British Legion. Many of our local businesses and families have responded positively to the appeal. Sue and Helen are hoping to exceed last year's figure of £1667.
Sue and Helen have some Street Poppies, small metal pin badges and some wooden crosses for the War Memorial, if anyone wishes to make a donation. The British Legion does an outstanding job in supporting the armed forces community, particularly veterans and their families. This year the charity is expected to be 20 million pounds down on last years collection. Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause.
