Open Afternoon at the Christie

wi 100y

Over Peover WI marked their 100th milestone in September with a big birthday party, keen to involve the local community, and as a finale to our centenary celebrations, we held an Open Afternoon a few days later. It was in the village hall where we meet every month and have been doing so since 1922.

The proceeds of the afternoon were for The Christie at Macclesfield.

There were cakes on sale, a raffle, refreshments served, the launch of our Centenary Cookbook and in addition the unveiling of our 100 Year History Timeline.

The 100 Year Timeline was fascinating and visitors really enjoyed viewing the memorabilia and in many cases recognising family, friends and faces of years gone by. It had taken a great deal of effort to put this together and judging from the visitor comments it had been well worthwhile.

The Cookbook had been many months in the making and is a compilation of the members' 100 favourite recipes, including the famous Cheshire Bun Loaf. Beautifully presented and illustrated, the book was put together by the members, one of whom is an artist. So far sales have exceeded 150 books and the proceeds from every copy sold will go to the Christie.

June Leach,OPWI President commented "how thrilled she was to see so many people joining our celebrations and as always the WI members had rallied round to make this event a special one. The afternoon was roaring success and a wonderful culmination to our centenary year".

... ..Roll on another 100 years!

In total, the afternoon raised over £1600. A fantastic result.

Anyone interested in the Cookbook, particularly for a Christmas gift, rest assured it will remain on sale and continue to raise funds.
