Everyone was looking forward to the first walk of 2020; it was going to be a circular walk around Tittesworth Water, near Leek, but snow overnight in that area had closed the access roads. With a flurry of early morning calls and texts, we quickly reorganised and decided to do a local walk.
Starting in Mainwaring Road, we set off down the lanes of Over Peover to complete a circular route via Ollerton. The skies looked blue and the sun was shining, perhaps the rain had finally stopped. Navigating the odd puddle, we were optimistic, alas halfway round the rain came down. One kind passer by explained that Mill Lane was flooded, so the route was quickly adjusted, and we cut across the fields.
A quick stop for a photo by the notice board displaying details of the walk that should have been and then into The Dog Pub for a hot drink and a warm by the open fire – superb!
Once refreshed, we left and headed back through the lanes to Mainwaring Road. Everyone had enjoyed the morning exploring the local area. Tittesworth Water would have to wait for another day!
