The Station Volunteers Winter Update
The team were delighted once again to win a category in the Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards for 2013. There were 35 station entrants. The ACoRP Award we won recognises the close partnership between Chelford Parish Council and our small team of volunteers, although we are not aware of any other councils in the competition where the Council Chair and her husband are actively involved in getting their hands dirty with us! We are proud of the recognition of all the hard work that makes the station a pleasant place to be and a credit to Chelford Village.
The weather just has not been fit so far this year to do much at the station at all. Everything is topsyturvy with the wet and mild weather. The spring bulbs are shooting up, the marigolds have not stopped flowering from summer through winter, and the primulas don't know whether they are coming or going! Blue tits are already inspecting the available residences! We can't help thinking we are in for a nasty weather shock soon that will upset everything.
Up at the station you will now find holders installed for current Crewe to Manchester timetable leaflets and also larger holders which will hold various booklets such as 'Rail Walks' and also 'Cheshire Celebrates' Railway Stations and People plus various other booklets as available. The holders are on either side of the path onto the Manchester platform and also inside the waiting shelter on the Crewe side. Thanks to John Kenny from Stockport MBC for sourcing and donating the boxes and also to David Jackson for his expert fitting skills!
When the weather improves and we're up at the station toiling away, please find time to say 'hello' to us. It spurs us on though Hoe hoe hoe' doesn't go down too well!
